What is the 291 AMS?

The 291 Autonomous Monitoring System (AMS) is a standalone, wearable RF threat detection device designed for military and security personnel operating in contested electromagnetic environments. It evolved from the proven 291 Electronic Protection Platform, purpose-built for demanding, real-world operational conditions.

Unlike conventional systems that rely on known threat signature libraries, the 291 AMS employs physics-based detection capable of identifying zero-day RF threats — signals never seen before — making it effective against rapidly evolving adversary tactics.

Design Philosophy

"Completely standalone. Zero emissions. No phone, no app, no wireless — just immediate, covert threat awareness on the operator's body."

Why 291 AMS?

  • Detects drones, RCIEDs, surveillance devices, and unknown RF threats
  • Zero RF emissions — invisible to electronic surveillance
  • No phone dependency — operates entirely on-device
  • Physics-based zero-day threat detection
  • Body-worn with tactile and visual alert modes
  • Built by Canadian veterans with 100+ years of combined EW experience

Multi-Domain RF Threat Coverage

Autonomous detection across the full spectrum of modern RF threats

Drone Detection

Detects commercial, FPV, and unknown drone control links across sub-GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz bands — including proprietary and rapidly-changing protocols.

  • • Commercial UAS control links
  • • FPV racing / attack drones
  • • Unknown / zero-day drone protocols
  • • WiFi-based drones

RCIED Trigger Detection

Identifies remote-controlled IED trigger transmissions in sub-GHz and ISM bands — providing early warning before detonation commands are received.

  • • Sub-GHz ISM band monitoring
  • • Low-power control protocols
  • • TX burst and anomaly detection
  • • Zero-day trigger identification

Surveillance Device Detection

Detects covert surveillance transmitters, hidden cameras with wireless uplinks, and anomalous RF activity indicative of electronic eavesdropping.

  • • Covert audio/video transmitters
  • • Cellular anomaly detection
  • • Push-to-talk radio identification
  • • ISM band reconnaissance

Zero-Day RF Threat Detection

A physics-based detection approach identifies threats through anomaly analysis — no prior signature knowledge required. Catches threats that signature-based systems miss entirely.

  • • Signature-free detection
  • • Catches never-before-seen signals
  • • Effective in RF-dense environments
  • • Continuously self-calibrating

Physics-Based, Signature-Free

Detection that doesn't depend on knowing the threat in advance

Most RF detection systems work by matching signals against a library of known threats — which means a brand-new drone protocol or a novel trigger can slip through unseen. The 291 AMS takes a different approach: it establishes what "normal" looks like in the operator's live electromagnetic environment and flags the anomalies that don't belong, whether or not that threat has ever been catalogued before.

No signatures required

Detects unknown and zero-day RF threats the moment they appear.

Environment-adaptive

Stays reliable in dense, WiFi-heavy urban RF while keeping false positives low.

Field-validated

Proven across multiple terrains and operational environments.

Detailed detection methodology is available to qualified partners under NDA.

Eyes Forward, Hands Free

The 291 AMS communicates threat information through colour-coded LEDs, haptic vibration, and audio tones — so the operator never needs to look at a screen, pull out a phone, or break focus from the mission.

Three switchable alert profiles let operators adapt the device to any environment — from full audio alerts on patrol to silent vibration-only mode during covert operations. One button press to switch.

Zero Wireless Emissions

No WiFi. No Bluetooth. No cellular. The device cannot be detected, tracked, or jammed through its own RF signature — because it has none.

Patrol Mode

Full LEDs, audio tones, and vibration — maximum situational awareness

Base Mode

Visual and vibration only — noise-disciplined for static security

Covert Mode

Vibration only — zero visual or audio signature for special operations

Where the 291 AMS Operates

Built for the threat landscape faced by modern defence and security operators

Dismounted Patrol

Body-worn on plate carriers or tactical vests. Provides continuous RF threat awareness to each member of a patrol without adding cognitive load or requiring screen interaction.

Force Protection

Forward operating base perimeter security. Detect incoming drone reconnaissance and RCIED staging before an attack is initiated. Multiple AMS units create distributed threat coverage.

VIP Protection

Close protection teams can carry the AMS covertly to detect electronic surveillance, drone observation, and RCIED threats around principal movements and secure venues.

Critical Infrastructure

Protect government facilities, embassies, and sensitive infrastructure from unauthorized drone surveillance and electronic intrusion with persistent wearable RF monitoring.

EOD / Route Clearance

Provides early warning of RCIED trigger transmissions during explosive ordnance disposal and route clearance operations — detecting threats before operators enter the kill zone.

Special Operations

Covert mode operation — vibration-only alerts with zero visual or audio signature. The system emits no RF, making it invisible to electronic surveillance and SIGINT detection.
