From Operational Experience to Technical Innovation
291 Group was founded by Canadian Armed Forces veterans each with nearly two decades of operational experience in signals intelligence and electronic warfare. After years of service in the CAF, we recognised a gap in the market for technology providers with deep operational expertise who could truly understand mission requirements and deliver solutions that work in the real world.

Veteran leaders with operational expertise and technical excellence
Sgt (Ret'd) Mike S
Mike brings over a decade of experience from the Canadian Armed Forces, specializing in electronic warfare, sensor operations, and complex mission coordination. His operational background includes deployment in 2010 as an electronic warfare sensor operator and driver, leadership of both armored vehicle–based and dismounted light electronic warfare collection teams, and service as a mission watch coordinator within a 24/7 integrated, multinational intelligence and collection environment.
In multiple leadership positions, Mike was accountable for preparing teams for deployment end-to-end — including training development, equipment readiness, logistics and supply coordination, and real-time adaptation as conditions changed. This experience shaped a practical, systems-oriented approach to operations, grounded in an understanding of how people, technology, workflows, and constraints interact in real-world environments.
Sgt (Ret'd) Sherif A
Sherif brings 20 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces, specializing in signals intelligence and the practical realities of working within complex signal environments. His background includes extensive hands-on experience with RF systems, Signals Intelligence collection, and technical operations, where understanding how systems actually behave in the real world mattered more than theory alone.
Throughout his career, his work focused on analysing, interpreting, and making sense of signals across challenging operational contexts, combining technical proficiency with an operator's perspective. Rather than treating systems as abstract models, he approaches them as living environments shaped by constraints, trade-offs, and human decision-making.
MCpl (Ret'd) Adnan B
Adnan is a former Special Forces Signals Communications Specialist with more than a decade of experience supporting operations in high-risk and complex environments.
With a strong foundation in secure communications and technical problem-solving, Adnan brings a calm, detail-oriented approach to every challenge.
Esteban V
Esteban is a strategic advisor specializing in AI-driven software, advanced analytics, and systems built for reliability at scale. With a background in electrical engineering, operations research, and applied machine learning, he has led and advised complex data, automation, and AI initiatives across regulated, high-stakes environments.
His work has supported globally recognized organizations including General Dynamics, Lululemon, Subaru, Harry Rosen, and Wells Fargo, bridging rigorous engineering with commercial execution. Known for translating complex technical systems into decisive strategy, Esteban brings a validation-first, security-aware, and operations-driven mindset to leadership teams building resilient, scalable software and AI platforms.
Charles K
Charles has extensive experience bridging gaps and breaking down cultural barriers within the defence community. He has been employed within multiple NATO countries in operational and defence liaison roles.
Charles leverages his international experience to guide decision-makers and solve issues by aligning perspectives. A strong believer in teamwork, he is confident that there is a mutually-beneficial solution to every misunderstanding.
David S
David brings over 21 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces, with a career focused on software development and technical leadership within signals intelligence and complex operational environments. His work consistently supported mission-critical decision-making where software reliability, data integrity, and system behavior under real-world conditions were paramount.
He offers extensive experience designing, developing, and maintaining software systems used to analyze signals and datasets in challenging operational contexts. Throughout his career, David led and contributed to the development of analytical tools that operated within constrained, high-risk environments, ensuring solutions remain practical, resilient, and aligned with organizational objectives.
